It's 1956, and you're all dressed up about to step into Zardi's Jazzland to spend an evening listening to the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald

For two weeks over the winter of '56, Ella headlined this famous Hollywood nightspot.

On the final night they rolled the tape and caught the whole gig - a rare glimpse into what it was like to be in an intimate jazz club with arguably the most famous jazz singer of them all - joking, forgetting words, taking requests, talking to the audience. Then for 60 years the tapes lie hidden in the vault at Verve records.

Premiering to sold out houses and five star reviews in its 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival season, join acclaimed jazz vocalist Louise Messenger along with her swinging trio as they recreate in its entirety this magical lost Ella album. A night of swinging jazz not to be missed!

"Messenger is a singer of almost impossible talent and class. She is quick to reassure that she is not out to impersonate Ella, but she certainly manages to encapsulate her and the style of the time. She is pitch-perfect, powerful, passionate and imaginative."

"Louise is cheeky, sultry, sexy and funny. She uses the lyrics as all good singers do, to tell a story. "
